Am I a candidate for dental implants?
Fixed implants are utilized to replace any quantity of badly compromised teeth, anywhere from just one tooth to a whole mouth full. You might qualify as a good candidate for oral implants if you suffer from the loss of teeth, require removals, or are unhappy with your existing replacement. To work, dental implants need adequate bone mass, healthy gums, and a reliable oral environment, and certain individuals could require extra care before they are thought of as proper candidates. Implant-supported restorations might not be an option when you are pregnant, smoke cigarettes, or have certain health concerns. During your consultation, Dr. Kasarsky will help you determine if dental implants are a match for you.
Treatment
Dental implants work by replacing the tooth root and providing a strong foundation for the new replacement tooth. The implant is a small, titanium post that is placed into the jawbone of the missing tooth. A new tooth can then be securely and permanently placed. This tooth will not only function like the patient’s natural teeth, but it will also feel and look like it as well. Once the implant is placed into the jawbone, it will take 3 – 6 months for the implant and the bone to fully fuse together. This time is necessary for a strong bond to form before the artificial tooth is placed. After it is determined that the bond between the implant and the bone is strong and secure, the dentist will then adhere a small metal post to attach an abutment. After the healing period, usually a few weeks, the replacement tooth will be secured to the abutment.
Estimate of Cost
The cost of a dental implant for a single tooth can start at $2,400 while full-mouth implants can be $7,000 and higher. The total cost of the implant will depend if the patient needs any extractions, how many implants, the implant material, and the location of the implants. During the initial consultation, the dentist will go over the patient’s treatment and financing options. Most dental insurance policies do not cover dental implants, since they are considered cosmetic, but our front office will confirm the patient’s coverage.
