Overview

Dental bonding is a cosmetic procedure that applies a tooth-colored, durable resin to the existing teeth and then the resin is bonded to the teeth with a special light to improve the appearance of the smile. Once the dental bonding has hardened, Manhattan cosmetic dentist, Dr. Jason Kasarsky, can shape and file the resin to look like perfect, natural teeth. For those needing minor tooth repairs, such as lengthening the tooth shape, closing gaps in the teeth, and filling in cracks and chips, dental bonding by Dr. Kasarsky can easily transform average-looking teeth into a dazzling smile.

Treatment

Dental bonding does not require local anesthetic or sedation, but some patients may want it for increased comfort during the procedure. During the bonding process, we will use a shade guide to select a composite resin that closely matches the color of the patient’s tooth. To prepare the teeth and help the resin bond to the natural teeth, we will texturize the surface and apply a conditioning liquid. Then, the tooth-colored, putty-like resin material is applied, molded, and smoothed to the desired shape on the tooth. Using a special light, the resin is set and the tooth is polished for a nice, natural finish. Typically, dental bonding only taking 30 - 60 minutes and it can be completed in one visit with no recovery time needed.

Bonding FAQs

How Long Does Bonding Last?

With good oral hygiene, the effects of dental bonding can last up 7 - 10 years. It is important for patients to maintain a good regimen of brushing, flossing, and regular visits to the dentist to maintain the quality of the bond.

Special Care for Bonded Teeth?

Bonded teeth should be treated just like regular teeth, which means good oral hygiene. However, because the bonded material is susceptible to chipping, patients will damage the resin faster if they continue habits such as biting fingernails and chewing on hard food or objects.

Benefits of Bonding?

Dental bonding is an effective and noninvasive procedure that can be used to fix a number of cosmetic tooth concerns. This treatment also helps to keep the teeth strong and healthy by strengthening the enamel. For patients who do not qualify or do not wish to undergo oral surgery, dental bonding can be a great choice for minor dental problems.
