Most people aren’t born with perfectly straight teeth, and those who desire straight teeth may not want to go through traditional metal braces. This is especially true for adults. Invisalign technology allows cosmetic dentist, Dr. Jason Kasarsky, to help his New York City patients to effectively move their teeth into alignment without clunky metal braces. Invisalign® is a series of clear, comfortable aligner trays that are custom-made to gradually move the teeth into a new, straighter position. Each tray is made of smooth, clear plastic that ‘snaps’ onto the teeth for most of the day, but can be removed for easier eating and cleaning. Invisalign created their trays to be virtually undetectable when they are worn, which makes Invisalign® great for adults and teenagers.

Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign is incredibly comfortable to wear and barely noticeable. Most Invisalign patients do not feel uncomfortable or self-conscious when they are wearing their aligners, unlike patients with traditional metal braces.

Adults and teenagers who would prefer a less noticeable alternative to traditional metal braces can be good candidates for Invisalign treatment. This choice can be suitable for addressing misaligned teeth (an underbite, overbite, crossbite, or open bite), a narrow arch, crooked or crowded teeth, or gapped teeth. Fixing such complications might allow for improved comfort, jaw function, and speaking and eating abilities. Invisalign clear aligners are also easily removed from the mouth, letting New York City teens and adults enjoy their favorite food items with no limitations and take care of their teeth without cumbersome appliances getting in the way. Invisalign technology creates a 3-D image of the patient’s teeth to help the dentist create a virtual treatment plan and create the first set of aligners for the patient. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign trays are discreet and comfortable to wear. Patients will wear their aligners every day for at least 20 – 22 hours a day for approximately 2 weeks, then switch to the next set of aligners. On average, patients wear between 18 - 30 aligner sets before they reach their final results. 

Invisalign® can cost from $3,500 - $6,000. Some of the cost of this treatment may be covered by dental insurance, so our office will contact the patient’s insurance provider prior treatment to determine their coverage and out-of-pocket costs. The cost of Invisalign® varies among patients based on the complexity of the case and the number of aligners needed during the treatment. 

Since every smile is different, the treatment time for each individual will be different. Most treatments last between 12 and 18 months, with the average treatment time being 13.5 months. During the consultation and throughout the treatment, the dentist will be able to give patient a better estimate of how long they will need to use their aligners.

It is important for Invisalign® patients to follow the directions given by their dentist if they want to get to their best results. Because Invisalign® is not attached to the teeth like traditional braces, it is very important that patients wear their aligners as much as possible; taking them off only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.
